3D Dimensional Work
At the heart of Charlotte Moore’s work is a strong sense of art history, memories of paintings she has seen and loved. Her lifelong interest is in museums and galleries, cultural repositories where she has drawn, sketched and photographed artefacts and paintings in their particular settings. The resulting imagery is incorporated into paintings vitally balanced between the aesthetic and the art historical. Her paintings describe the retrospective logic of art as it is reinterpreted, allowing her to see what came before, appreciating the appeal of artistic precedent.
Whilst painting she particularly has in mind Velasquez, Sargent, Seurat and Matisse, it is about composition, colour and atmosphere. She sees art as a story, a movement, a time, an idea, an accumulation of history and experience.
